"What was New...?"
is no longer in use, because there will be few or no updates in the near future.
Click here for an explanation of the new
function of this site.
May, 2000 : Final Entry
- May 1, 2000 : The Parallax MSX Games
site has changed its mission. As all resources from Parallax will be transferred
to Shape 9 Digital Design, this site will
no longer be updated. But it contains some great info and entertainment, so
it will be kept online till the end of days (approximately).
- I thoroughly enjoyed maintaining this site, and got a lot of great feedback.
I'd advise anyone to read a bit from the Core
Dump diary, or maybe just browse a bit, but there's enough for anyone
here... approximately 180 pages..
- August 26, 1999 : Finally, something
new to tell. And quite a lot, too. Read more.
- January 27, 1999 : Just a minor update
of my picture on these pages.
- January 7, 1999 : Completed the Core
Dump character profiles section.
- December 17, 1998 :
I've reprogged some stuff - you can now directly bookmark any page. I had
prevented this before by my "do not link to this page" construction, but I
changed my mind. Go on and bookmark any page!
- December 9, 1998 : A diary entry is coming
soon, but try and download OX first!
- November 5, 1998 : I updated the links page just a bit.
- October 22, 1998 : Added the profiles of Frank, Eric and Earl.
- June 16, 1998 :
It's my birthday!! Woooh, I'm an old guy now, having reached the honourable
age of 24.
Erm... that's all.
- June 12, 1998 : Although I'm in the middle
of my exams, I haven't stopped development. Read all about it, and check out
some screenshots at the work in progress section of today.
- June 4, 1998 :
...and now I've removed the "MSX rating" again. That system just doesn't
work. Maybe when there's a better working counter I'll put it on my pages,
but this one just slows me down incredibly.
- May 6, 1998 :
I've just added the "MSX rating" picture to the front page, to keep up the
daily ratings. That one does not count text-browser viewers, so the results
might be incorrect. But I think they'll give a good indication of page
- May 1, 1998 : This site was voted
third best MSX site on the web! Check out the overall results of that voting, and see for yourself.
- April 24, 1998 : At last: I can put
my interview online! I hope someone likes it. I like it. So that's one. Good.
- April 7, 1998 : I dropped the "DISCLAIMER"
button in the banner (top and bottom line of the pages), and replaced
it by a "MISC" (Miscellaneous) button. Much more useful, that.
- April 2, 1998 : Lost and found: The
one and only online review of Akin. And, soon to come: thirteen questions for Cas Cremers
- and the embarrassing answers!
- March 13, 1998 : The Core Dump pictures
from the "Work in Progress" sections 1 to 27 have been collected on the newest
gallery page! I am planning to extend the gallery further next week, but
my current exams take up a lot of time.
- March 5, 1998 :
By popular demand: a "last update" sign on the index page.
- February 17, 1998 : I've updated the
Site Map a bit.
- February 13, 1998 : Friday the 13th,
and Cas decides he will finally have a go at implementing the new Guestbook.
How can that work?
What's new then? Well, you now read the guestbook entries in groups of
five, and have to select "next page" to see more. That makes it more manageable.
Anyway, although you can't see all the changes, internally everything
has changed. No more PERL. Really. It now even works in the theoretical
event of two users trying to sign it simultaneously.
Oh and another thing. Yes, I changed the joystick-codes for the cheat
menus of the MCCM Blade Lords... *evil grin*
February 10, 1998 : I've changed
the entry page a little. It sure is clearer now, and more attention
is focussed on the options on the left.
February 4, 1998 : As Core Dump
grows into completion, I've added a new feedback form to the
"Contact Parallax"-page. And remember folks, not all additions to the Work In Progress pages are listed here! Visit them seperately for up-to-date
information on Core Dump.
- January 21, 1998 :
I've made Parallax pages more Lynx-friendly. Now, when you log in using
Lynx, text-only mode is automatically selected!
- December 22, 1997 :
The entry point kept causing troubles, so I've changed the CGI from an
NPH-CGI to a normal CGI. Hope this works. (Update 06/01/1998: Yesss!
Everyone can visit these pages again!)
- December 17, 1997 :
Phew, I hope everyone can log in at the Parallax pages again, because the
entry point seemed to be messed up. Anyway, I have fixed an error now, let's
hope it's the only one.
- December 9, 1997 :
I figured, someone with a certain type of link would prefer to set the
backgrounds on or off, or maybe even have text with frames.
So I made a new option at the Parallax Home, look at the lower left corner.
You can now select any of eight display methods using the three switches!
I have been cleaning the intro screen, updating the MSX page, added a link,
typed for the Work in Progress... it's a bit like cleaning your room really.
Everyone should try it ;)
- November 27, 1997 : I have re-structured
the CGI internally. This will allow for more options in the near future... such
as a new guestbook, and reader polls. If all has gone well, the average reader
won't be able to see the difference at this point.
- November 19, 1997 : Finally online: the
Japanese version of the Core Dump promo! There is an english version as well as a japanese version of the download page. It's fun, and slightly enhanced from
the English version, so others might want to play this one too!
- November 11, 1997 : We reveal a new Akin
password in the Cheat Corner, which enables a fully-functional memory-editor!
- November 10, 1997 :
The Japanese version of the Core Dump promo will be put online this
friday! (that is: november 14, if all goes well)
- November 7, 1997 : Takamichi has opened
his Translation page. Very impressive list, so I've
put it in my "interesting links" list.
And I've been giving away the basics of the scrolling routines in Akin/Core Dump.
- October 27, 1997 : With the help of
Takamichi Suzukawa I've been working on a Japanese version of
the Core Dump promo! It is almost finished, and it will be released with NV magazine
in Japan. When that happens, it'll also be available here.
- September 24, 1997 : Post-Zandvoort stress disorder? Me too.
- September 2, 1997 : With help from Jan
van Valburg and Manuel Bilderbeek I've put a disk image (.DSK) of the Core
Dump promo online for people using MSX-emulators. Whow! "I've never seen service
- September 1, 1997 : New version of the
promo online! Get it here.
- August 26, 1997 :
I finally automated the process that looks at the what's new list to
incorporate the last work in progress, if there is any. So the what's new
list will be quite accurate from now on! There's no real need anymore to
check the "Work In Progress" section seperately if you check this page
- August 20, 1997 : There's a Site Map now for easier navigation through these pages. It can also be reached
from the main page.
- August 18, 1997 : Hurrah! The first
Core Dump promo (playable!) is online now. Get it while it's hot!
Oh, and it's also a little bit different from the Promo that appeared
on Future Disk issue 32. This one's is just an improved version of the FD
- August 13, 1997 : Strange new item: how to make cheat modes for Konami roms. See for yourself.
- August 6, 1997 :
The Core Dump promo has been delayed until monday/tuesday. Sorry.
- July 17, 1997 : I've given titles to
all episodes of the Core Dump Work In Progress. That should make it easier for everyone to (re)read an
episode, or just read the ones they're interested in.
- July 14, 1997 : The Core Dump updates
were growing a bit out of proportion, so I've cut them up in episodes. It
should be easier to find your way now! There's also a new entry, so read more
about Core Dump. This site is becoming a bit big, that's what I say. Hmms. I think
that is good.
- July 8, 1997 : There is now an "Interesting Links" page. Where can I go? How do I get there?
These links are about computer games, mostly. I like that.
- July 2, 1997 : I revised the game pages
a bit. And I still have a feeling that few people have seen the strategy sections or the cheat sections of the Parallax games. You should check them out.
- June 23, 1997 : A new tour!
- June 20, 1997 :
I've added frames to the Core Dump bit, and changed the general layout of
that too. Looks better now.
- June 19, 1997 :
Done a bit of updating on the general system. Not too much, that's
for sure. Now I'm off for a drink. Indeed. A drink.
- June 18, 1997 : I've never done so much
work on the CGI in one day before. Now there's an automatically generated
frame version of these pages! (I won't explain how that's done because it
took a lot of work before everything worked properly...)
Personally I don't even like frames. That's why I made the graphic version
as it was first. And now the reader can choose the one he prefers. Three
versions, what a service!
I think I will just go on using the graphic (no frames) version. But hey,
you can't have enough options...
- June 12, 1997 : Darn! Pixelsight isn't working anymore, and will turn into a paid-for service!
That's the worst internet news I've heard in weeks.
But I kept on revising the CGI. It now has a cool new feature: you can test
it by making a bookmark to a certain page, say this one, test it, store it,
and try it again in five days...
- June 5, 1997 :
Due to some personal problems I didn't do a lot this week. Sorry!
- May 30, 1997 : Phew! The first tour has been installed. I hope you like the idea. Soon there'll be more
kinds of tours, I've got great things planned.
- May 28, 1997 :
After thinking a lot about how I could introduce people to some of my
Parallax pages that don't get read a lot, I struck upon three ideas:
Today I spent a whacking eight hours behind the computer to code a guided tour
engine into the CGI. It's not as easy as it seems. I needed a "guided tour script file" that
would arrange the sequence of pages, and some mechanism to add "guide comments"
to the pages that the reader is guided along. Also, it has to be idiot-proof.
And I revised the CGI mechanics overall. Well anyway, it is working fine now.
- Page of the day/week
This way, all pages should have been seen by people who click on the
"page of the week" option after a while.
- Site Map
If I draw a little map of my site, it should be easier to check what you've
already seen and what not!
- Guided Tour
I could offer a guided tour of my site. That could turn out to be funny!
But I can't put it online yet, because first I need to draw some graphics
for the guided tour. Pixelsite was not very speedy today, and besides that
I'm tired and hungry, so just hang on. Within a week there'll be a cool new
"guided tour of the Parallax site!"
- May 27, 1997 : Many people found world
2-9 of Blade Lords too difficult, even when I explained how to do it. For those
people there is now a patch available to make world 2-9 a lot easier.
- May 21, 1997 :
I noticed that many people haven't discovered all the great tips and
strategy sections for my games. So I'll explain it a little bit: in the
games section, there are a few buttons. When you enter, you enter in the
"GAME" mode. By selecting a game, you get a description. When you want to
read something about the game, how to play it (strategy guide) and how to cheat
(cheat corner) are just a button-click away. Try it out, especially the
Magnar, Black Cyclon and Blade Lords sections are quite nice.
Tip of the day: the Blade Lords strategy guide. Check it out!
- May 20, 1997 :
Congratulations Yen!! (Oh, and check out the Core Dump updates for
more techno babble)
- May 12, 1997 : I've been working a lot
on Core Dump, but I don't record it in the "what's new" all the time.
